CASE STUDIES
ACADEMIC SUPPORT
NEW YORK
GIRL, AGED 9
BACKGROUND
This girl attended a top independent school in New York, and whilst she did well at school academically, she did not feel particularly motivated or interested in her studies. She further had a wide range of extracurricular interests that she and her parents felt were not encouraged by the school. A tutor was sought who would challenge and engage her in a way the school could not.
OUTCOME
This assignment required finding just the right person: a gifted and experienced educator with a broad academic and cultural background and extracurricular interests which overlapped with the student. A tutor was found matching this brief with whom the student had an immediate and strong rapport. Upon being assigned to this position, the educator created a rich extracurricular programme of study for the girl. This included classes in Latin, History, Creative Writing and Tennis, as well as cultural trips around the city. These classes took place over the course of eighteen months on weekends and during school holidays. During her time with our tutor, the girl gained a new passion for learning, particularly in developing her creative writing which flourished under the tutor’s nurturing supervision.
